The Challenge
Constructing a 26-metre-high temporary acoustic partition inside a major international sporting venue presents significant engineering and logistical challenges:
- Extreme height and structural stability requirements
Strict fire safety compliance - High-performance acoustic separation between live sporting events
- Tight installation programme
- International logistics and coordination
The wall needed to fully isolate the noise generated from boxing events and prevent disruption to adjacent volleyball competitions, maintaining broadcast-quality sound control throughout the Games.
Materials & Engineering Scale
To construct the 155m x 26m structure, the build required:
- 800 packs of Rockwool RWA45 insulation
- 85 pallets of 12.5mm Fermacell boards
- 60 tonnes of SFS metal framing
The result was a severe-duty rated partition system capable of delivering both structural strength and verified acoustic performance at exceptional height.
The Solution
JPS Jumbo Partition Systems installed the JPS60FS partition system, finished in black industrial coating to integrate seamlessly within the arena environment.
The system delivered:
- 54 dB acoustic performance (live onsite test)
- One-hour fire resistance
- Severe-duty robustness rating
- Rapid installation within a live international venue
Despite the logistical complexity of operating overseas, the project was delivered two days ahead of schedule, earning excellent client feedback.
Results
The completed partition successfully:
- Separated two major sporting arenas within one structure
- Maintained acoustic integrity for international broadcast standards
- Met strict fire safety requirements
- Demonstrated the capability to build temporary partitions up to 30m high
