JPS120FS 120-Minute Fire-Rated & 62dB Acoustic Warehouse Partition System

Project Overview

JPS Jumbo Partition Systems were appointed to design, supply and install a high-performance fire-rated partition solution for the proposed warehouse and associated internal alterations at Autosmart, Unit 9, Ashworth Road, Burntwood, WS7 3GJ.

The project required the formation of robust, full-height compartmentation within a large industrial unit, including specialist areas such as highly flammable and aerosol storage zones. The system needed to deliver:

• 120 minutes fire resistance
• 62dB acoustic performance
• Extreme robustness rating
• Compliance with current fire regulations
• Structural stability under applied wind loads
• Integration with multiple high-level openings and roller shutter doors

The specified solution was the JPS Jumbo Partition Systems JPS120FS Robust “FS” Series partition system

The Challenge

Autosmart’s operational requirements introduced several technical challenges:

• Construction to a maximum height of 14.1 metres
• Integration with existing portal frame structure
• Formation of multiple 5m high roller shutter openings 
• Accommodation of door openings and structural box lintels
• Installation of a deflection head detail to accommodate building movement

Additionally, revised wind loading calculations required the system to withstand:

• Applied wind load: 0.6 kN/m²
• ULS axial load: 4.7 kN
• ULS bending moment (Y-Y): 13.42 kN.m

This demanded a structurally engineered internal partition capable of delivering both fire and structural performance in a high-bay warehouse environment.

Specialist Works Delivered

The scope included:

• Formation of 4 roller shutter door openings (approx. 2500mm x 5000mm)
• Multiple single door openings with structural box lintels
• Composite lintel installation between grid lines
• Minor axis restraints at quarter points
• Corridor roof integration with 62dB acoustic rating
• Fire-rated deflection head details
• Service penetration trimming and fire stopping provisions

All works were completed in a continuous programme, with a typical installation period of 4–5 weeks
