Acoustic Jumbo Partition Installation

Project Overview

Jumbo Partition Systems (JPS) delivered a large-scale acoustic partition installation at the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC), Exhibition Hall 4, Glasgow. The project required the creation of a substantial temporary partition to divide the exhibition hall while maintaining strict acoustic performance and structural requirements.

The partition was designed to span the full height of the building structure, reaching the underside of the roof beams to ensure complete acoustic separation between event spaces.

By installing a high-performance JPS acoustic jumbo partition system, the space could be effectively separated for multiple simultaneous events without sound transfer between areas.

The Challenge

Exhibition halls present unique construction challenges due to their extreme height, large spans, and complex roof structures. In this case, the partition needed to:

• Span 82 metres across the hall
• Reach 15 metres in height to the roof beams
• Maintain high acoustic performance to prevent sound transmission
• Be installed around existing mechanical and electrical services
• Be capable of rapid installation and removal to accommodate event schedules

To achieve the required acoustic separation, the wall had to be fully sealed to the underside of the roof structure with no air gaps, ensuring optimal sound insulation performance.

The Solution

Jumbo Partition Systems supplied and installed a JPS F60S acoustic jumbo partition system, designed specifically for high-performance sound separation in large venues.

The wall construction included:

• Heavy-duty full-height galvanised steel stud framework
• Stud sections installed at 600mm centres
• High-density mineral wool acoustic insulation
• 12.5mm JPS  Robust  performance boards fixed to both sides of the framework
• Close-jointed board finish for improved acoustic integrity
• A sealed perimeter installation around roof services and structure

The resulting system delivered a 54dB acoustic rating with 60-minute fire resistance, making it suitable for demanding exhibition and event environments.
