At the iconic Here East campus within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, our team delivered a high-performance internal fire partition using the JPS60FS Jumbo Partition System. The installation formed a large-scale internal separation within Studio 7 at the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), originally developed for the London 2012 Olympic Games and now one of London’s leading technology and innovation hubs.

The project required a tall, high-bay partition capable of spanning large industrial spaces while maintaining robust fire and acoustic performance.

Project Overview

The JPS60FS system was selected to provide a 60-minute fire-rated partition with strong acoustic separation, ensuring safe compartmentation within the building while supporting flexible studio and workspace layouts.

The partition was designed as a large-format jumbo wall running approximately 39 metres in length and up to 10 metres high, creating a substantial internal division across the studio space.

Due to the building’s long-span roof structure, the partition also incorporated a specialist deflection head system, allowing for 45mm movement both upwards and downwards, ensuring structural tolerance while maintaining fire integrity.

Installation Approach

The system was engineered to suit the scale and structural conditions of the existing Olympic broadcast facility.

Key installation elements included:

  • 200mm steel section SFS studs installed at 600mm centres
  • JPS  Robust  performance boards providing durability and acoustic performance
  • 75mm mineral wool acoustic insulation within the partition core
  • Deep head channel system allowing up to 90mm total structural deflection
  • Specialist “umbrella” fire protection detail beneath the roof purlins to maintain the fire compartment line
  • Smooth painted finish providing a clean architectural appearance

The continuous steel framing system ensured exceptional structural stability, particularly important within the large-span roof environment of the former Olympic broadcast facility.
