At the Johnsons Cars Volkswagen dealership in Otium Park, Solihull, our team delivered a specialist internal partitioning installation using a combination of JPS60FS and JPS30FS Jumbo Partition Systems. The works formed part of the construction of a modern automotive showroom and workshop facility, requiring robust fire-rated partitions to separate operational areas while maintaining a clean internal finish suitable for a commercial environment.

Project Overview

The project required a number of full-height internal partitions designed to provide both fire protection and acoustic separation across the building. The main compartment wall was constructed as a 60-minute fire-rated partition, while additional 30-minute fire-rated partitions were installed to divide workshop, office and service areas within the facility.

The primary fire wall (Wall A) extended approximately 48.5 linear metres, forming a major fire compartment within the building. A secondary wall (Wall B) delivered 30-minute fire separation across approximately 54 metres, including a 10.3 metre bulkhead section to accommodate changes in the internal layout.

Installation Approach

Both partition systems were constructed using heavy-duty galvanised steel stud frameworks combined with high-performance board linings designed to achieve the required fire and acoustic ratings.

Key construction elements included:

  • 150mm steel stud framework installed at 600mm centres
  • 12.5mm high-performance boards fixed to both sides of the partition
  • 75mm high-density mineral wool insulation within the wall cavity
  • Deep base and head channel sections providing structural stability
  • A smooth painted finish, achieved through joint treatment, fine surface preparation and two coats of emulsion.

This construction method ensured the partitions delivered both structural strength and the required fire performance while maintaining a clean architectural appearance throughout the facility.
