Unit 8 Wellington Retail Park – Waterlooville

At Wellington Retail Park in Waterlooville, our team delivered a large-scale internal sub-division wall using the JPS60FS Jumbo Partition System. The project formed part of a landlord refurbishment programme to divide a former single retail unit into two separate retail spaces, ready for future tenant occupation.

Working within an occupied retail park environment, the installation required careful coordination to maintain site safety, minimise disruption to neighbouring stores and ensure compliance with strict fire and acoustic performance requirements.

Project Overview

Jumbo Stud Partitions Ltd were appointed to design, supply and install a full-height fire-rated partition wall forming the new boundary between Units 8A and 8B. The system chosen was the JPS60FS 54dB Robust Acoustic Jumbo Partition System, providing both 60 minutes fire resistance and high acoustic separation to meet landlord and building control requirements.

The wall was constructed as a full-height jumbo stud partition extending to the underside of the warehouse roof structure, delivering reliable compartmentation within the large retail unit.

Installation Approach

The partition system was engineered to provide structural strength, fire performance and acoustic control within the large-span retail environment.

Key construction elements included:

  • 150mm steel section studs installed at 600mm centres
  • 75mm mineral wool insulation (45kg/m³) within the wall cavity
  • 12.5mm JPS robust performance boards installed to both faces
  • Deep head channel detail allowing structural deflection of 20mm upward and 85mm downward
  • Overall partition width of approximately 175mm providing enhanced acoustic and fire performance.

Access plant and careful sequencing were required to install the wall beneath the pitched warehouse roof structure while maintaining safe operations within the retail park.

  • Operational Retail Park: Surrounding retail units remained open throughout the programme, requiring strict logistics planning and controlled deliveries.
  • Full-Height Construction: The partition extended to the underside of the roof structure, requiring powered access and coordination with structural elements.

Fire & Acoustic Compliance: The system needed to achieve 60-minute fire protection alongside 54dB acoustic separation to satisfy landlord and regulatory requirements.

Project Outcome

The completed installation successfully transformed the original retail unit into two independent, compliant retail spaces, ready for landlord handover and tenant fit-out.

The JPS60FS Jumbo Partition System delivered a high-performance solution combining fire resistance, acoustic control and structural durability. The smooth finished surfaces also ensured the wall was suitable for shell-condition handover, allowing future tenants to complete their internal fit-outs with ease.
