JPS Jumbo Partition Systems were selected to deliver extensive internal partitioning works at the MacDermid Graphic Solutions facility in Wigan. The project involved the installation of multiple high-bay industrial partitions to create operational separation within the production building while maintaining fire safety and acoustic performance.

Working within a live industrial environment, the project required careful coordination to ensure the new partitions integrated with the existing building structure and services without disrupting operations.

Scope of Works

The installation included a series of large internal partition walls constructed throughout the building to create separated working areas and improve operational functionality.

The works incorporated several major partition walls across the facility, including:

• Walls A – G installed across multiple internal locations
• Partitions constructed to full structural height, reaching up to 8.6 metres
• Integration with the existing steel structure including RSJ columns and roof purlins
• Installation of specialist deflection head details to allow for structural movement

These partitions were strategically positioned to divide production areas while maintaining safe fire compartmentation within the building.

The JPS Jumbo Partition System was selected due to its ability to deliver robust industrial separation while maintaining high fire and acoustic performance.

This specification ensures the partitions remain stable, durable, and compliant with fire and acoustic performance requirements in demanding industrial environments.

Challenges & Solutions

Working Around Existing Steelwork

The building structure included numerous RSJ columns and roof purlins, requiring precise detailing to ensure the partitions could be installed while maintaining structural movement allowances.

High-Level Construction

With partition heights approaching 9 metres, specialist installation techniques and powered access equipment were required to safely complete the works.

Live Industrial Environment

Installation works were coordinated to minimise disruption to the operational areas of the facility.
